Come and join us on the Vulture Feeding experience, get aquainted with the historic landmarks of Victoria Falls town and its african bush in the vecinity. On this tour you will also visit a panoramic view point of the gorge, the mighty Zambezi below, the historic Victoria Falls Bridge and some african markets .Furthermore you will be crossing the tracks of the famous Cairo to Cape Town railroad line built by Cecile Rhodes...in a comfy way in the back of one of our Safari Game Viewers. Our guides conduct the tour depending on where they might suspect the animals. Vulture Feeding Experience: For the past 19 years or so, informed guests and visitors are welcome to watch the “Vulture Culture” experience. In front of the lodge’s Bar, down a dirt pathway through dry bush, there’s a “hide” – a viewing deck with concrete benches on which to sit, covered by a canopy of branches for shade. You first get a briefing on the plight of the endangered birds and their ecological importance. Then the guide hauls out a gunny sack with heads, feet and leftovers of beef, chickens, warthogs – whatever the chef doesn’t use in the lodge’s kitchen – to a red dirt patch. Then he tosses out the carcass bits and quickly runs away. The vultures, which for the previous hour have been flying in from miles around and gathering on nearby trees, suddenly swoop in. It’s quite a sight to watch them tearing into the bloody pieces! You can even hear the whoosh whoosh of their big wings flapping (they have wing spans of three feet) as they push and jostle one another to get at the food. The ugly red-headed birds are hooded vultures, while the others are mainly white-backed vultures. The feeding we watched attracted more than 200 vultures (typical). And it was all over quite quickly – within 20 minutes or so… After the feeding is over and the vultures head back into the wild, we will bring you back to the point of origin. *What to bring* your camera Our Victoria Falls safaris are absolutely unique and a truly unforgettable experience for you and your family.
